Kapiti Concert Orchestra Inc.

The Kapiti Concert Orchestra was established in 2004 with professional conductor Kenneth Young as Principal Conductor.

We are an amateur orchestra which provides a warm and welcoming environment in which young players can have an opportunity to gain orchestral skills, in which practising musicians and people wanting to return to orchestral playing can participate and where newcomers of all ages can give it a go.

Kenneth Young conducts one concert a year for us.  For the other two concerts the Kapiti Concert Orchestra selects conductors for their high musical skills, friendly personalities and ability to teach.

We are an amateur orchestra aiming for professional standards.  Any shortcomings in musical skill are overcome with enthusiasm and commitment.

We plan ahead to make our three concerts a year of varying natures to appeal to a wide range of audiences.

One of our purposes is to encourage young musicians as players, conductors and soloists and we frequently draw on the New Zealand School of Music to this end.

We like to give talented young players the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Kapiti Concert Orchestra, paritcularly if they are Kapiti musicians.

The permanent members of the orchestra range in age from 14 to over 70.

We normally perform with an orchestra of 35 to 40 players.

Concerts are held at various venues on the Kapiti Coast
