Jane Santos

My love for mosaics began in 1996 and for many years I pursued the art in my spare time as I was teaching full time. In 2002 I became a full time artist when I moved to New Zealand.

My mosaics reflect my surroundings and the inspiration gathered from the native flora and fauna I observe in my daily life. In my panels I use French porcelain, ceramic and glass tiles shaped by hand cutters. I like to use a lot of colour in my work particularly in the cityscapes inspired by the old houses of Wellington. My art does not make political statements or have hidden meanings, but reflect my love for the subjects and the passion for the medium. Working with hand cut tiles I interact with each piece of tile and am intimately involved with the creative process.

I regularly exhibit and sell my work in Wellington and Auckland and through recognised Galleries including my own.

My work is also sold internationally to buyers who appreciate the art and who wish to own a reminder of our unique country. I am a member of NZ Academy of Fine Art, NZ Art Guild, The British Association of Modern Mosaics, and the Mosaic Association of Australia and New Zealand.
