Linda Niccol

Linda Niccol is a talented conceptual thinker, writer, director and producer.

Linda began her writing career in 1992 writing advertising copy for one of New Zealand's prominent advertising agencies. 

In 1997 she started writing short stories and other fiction through which she quickly made a name for herself and has swiftly picked up numerous awards and accolades.

Linda initially trained as a journalist and has participted in workshops on creative writing and film making.

Raumati South is where Linda chooses to live as she loves the sea and finds rapport with the colourful creative community there.

Intruiged by small communities and "the routes people choose to take through life's maze", Linda finds ample inspiration in those she comes into contact with in her own life.

Linda's anthology of short stories, The Geometry of Desire (David Ling 2005), has recently aquired a companion book, The Temperature of Water (Silver Owl Press), also a collection of short stories, published at the end of 2008. 

Amid her many short stories, Linda has also written screenplays for movies The Handkerchief, The Poets, Second-Hand Wedding (co-writer) and Poppy, which is still in the pipeline.

In the past year Linda made her debut as a director for The Poets which she not only wrote but also produced.   

After the sucess of Second-Hand Wedding (set and filmed largely in Raumati and Paraparaumu), Linda is currently working on her new feature film, Poppy, supported by the New Zealand Film Commission, which is set in local Paraparaumu shopping centre, Coastlands; and is also working on a new novella about a mysterious collector...
