Don Wilson
Since the age of fourteen, Don has been playing the guitar and singing. Twenty-three years ago he became a professional musician.
These days, as well as being an accomplished artist and sculptor, Don is a solo performer - singing and playing his acoustic or electric guitars and harmonica.
His impressive career has spanned more than three decades and includes a gold disk for his hit Big Norm in 1975 with Stefan Brown and winning the NZ Music Award for ‘group of the year’ with the song. With his band, The Heartbreakers, he released several singles including Just Like Romeo and Juliet, which reached the national top twenty and was number one in Wellington among other places.
They won another NZ Music Award for their song Computer Man.
Hey Mr Lange is a single he released with Paul Schrueder in 1985. They also recorded twenty tracks including the title track for the TV series ‘Peppermint Twist’ and had a successful residency at the Thank God Its Friday bar in Wellington over this period. Don turned solo in the early nineties and was resident entertainer at The Bond Street Inn (latterly The Loaded Hog) in Wellington for five years where he built a substantial following.
Since then he has performed continually around the greater Wellington area playing at concerts, clubs, bars, and also performing at weddings and private and corporate functions.
Don's solo CD, Feel The Power, is an album of original songs, the cover of which, has been illustrated by himself.
It is an album with a mixture of country flavoured songs through to rock - Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Paul Kelly among its influences.
Don is currently working on an album of new songs.
