Ken Hunt
Painter, Ken Hunt, was born in Christchurch and has lived in Kapiti for the past three years.
Ken started painting portraits as a teenager but stopped around the age of eighteen. He then embarked on a career as a commercial artist and subsequently, a financial planner.
After a motorcycle accident and resulting head injury Ken closed his business and returned to painting in his thirties.
Naturally talented, Ken is largely self-taught but has had mentoring from accomplished artists, Chris Browne and Paul Hunt (no relation) amongst others.
Ken is primarily a portrait artist but is also known for his exraordinary copies of Goldie's works and the old masters.
Working only in oils Ken captures his subject with astounding accuracy and has a highly refined sense of colour and light.
Over the past twenty years, the majority of his work has been sold privately, by commission, and includes four portraits for the set of Peter Jackson's Lord of The Rings.
During the past two years Ken has concentrated on painting birds, mountains and landscapes along with several portraits.
Ken has had three exhibitions at the Rona Gallery in Eastbourne, Wellington, in as many years, and also has paintings in six other New Zealand galleries.
Currently, Ken is busy with privately commissioned portraits and is soon to embark on a series of figure studies.
