Sonia Savage
Though Sonia Savage is primarily a painter these days, she has created sculpture too. Sonia does not have a sole style, her expression manifests in a range from realism through many differnent stylisations, to abstraction. She uses whichever she feels best suited in the moment.
Sonia's paintings can depict any of a range of subject matter. Landscapes, townscapes, portraits and still-lives are frequent and very often more than one of these elements can appear together in a composition.
A unique trademark of Sonia's however, is "Snobby Susan". Snobby Susan is a fictional character who manages to have a scene in her life depicted by Sonia once a year. The viewer gets to see a snippet of Susan's progress through her privelaged journey. These depictons are humerous and anecdotal and are portrayed in a stylised manner that is truly Sonia's own.
Sonia's passion for art began when she was very young. Through primary school and college she drew and painted. In her early twenties she joined The Learning Connection in Wellington for two years of training.
Her journey since then has largely been self-exploratory. She has worked with oils, acrylics, pastel and Oamaru stone.
