Susan Colien-Reid

Susie comes from a background in classical violin, orchestras, performing arts, and festivals.
Her musical journey has seen her coordinate a choir in the jungles of Papua New Guinea; rattle the chandeliers playing the violin for Prince Charles; perform solo support for the Blind Boys of Alabama, Judy Small, John Hammond; perform with Paul Ubana Jones; tour NZ and perform in Australian festivals as violinist for Carousel.
She has also played for nearly every charity and service organization in a 20 year period on the Kapiti Coast.
In recent years she has given her time to create entertainment programmes for the Organic River Festival, The Waikanae Show and Sports Day, the Kapiti Sustainable Home and Garden Show, and has helped the Kapiti Live Music Club since it first started on the Coast.
Blackeyedsusie - the band
Susie's special passion is using her skills to help educate against family violence, and her celtic band Blackeyedsusie is currently re-recording the 2008 White Ribbon Day song, "Don't Do Nothing", so that it can be used in efforts to stop "bullying in the home".
Blackeyedsusie was formed in the small West Coast beach community of Te Horo. Susie - violinist, vocalist and songwriter is the band's driving force.
The latest line up was formed in 2007 and already the band has played at all Kapiti's major events and many private functions.
Blackeyedsusie's line up is:
Ex-Drifters guitarist and vocalist Ramon Oza; Susie Colien- Reid, violin,guitar, vocals; Jim Anderson bass, vocals, and Darren Jaggard drums.
The style is a lively raw mix of Irish flavoured orginals and covers, traditional jigs rocked up, and Ramon's 80's pop / funk. For functions they play all styles from jazz - classic pop / rock.
A CD is planned for 2009 featuring the band's signature songs.
